Hold
Karma Taylor

Hold is a collection of contemporary functional ceramics grounded in the rhythms of daily life. Their stories unfold through small, repeated gestures: a mug lifted, a bowl cradled, a light tended. In these moments, function becomes a way of being present, an invitation to slow down and notice.

Each piece carries subtle variations in form and surface, revealing character gradually through touch and use. Over time, the objects settle into the spaces around us, becoming familiar, steady companions. They are not only tools but part of daily rituals: holding, gathering, resting, connecting, and woven into the quiet framework that supports us. Through their weight, warmth, and tactility, they offer comfort and familiarity, encouraging reflection and care in the flow of everyday life.

Hold invites a slower way of engaging, where meaning accumulates, and functional ceramics are experienced not only as objects but as elements to live with, return to, and treasure over time.

Karma Taylor, Ceramic Artist

Originally from Sweden, I studied art in California and spent two decades working in branding and design before stepping away to spend several years hiking long-distance trails across multiple continents. The journey reshaped my perspective and led to a professional pivot, eventually bringing me to Aotearoa New Zealand, where I now live and work with my partner at Mud and Stone Studios.

Working with clay is both grounding and expressive, allowing me to shape objects by hand into something organic, tangible, and real. I create contemporary functional ceramics with confident lines, considered profiles, and a rich, balanced palette. Shaped by my Swedish heritage, my work draws on the clean, restrained forms of Scandinavian minimalism and the practical sensibility of mid-century modern design, becoming meaningful companions in the quiet rituals that shape our days.
