Amber Smith
Amber Smith

Amber Smith is a multidisciplinary artist - ceramicist, printmaker, and painter - based in Nelson with a lifelong, deep connection to her craft. Her distinctive handbuilt vessels and bowls are etched using sgraffito, woven with motifs of native birds, koru, and the words of Māori whakataukī and waiata aroha, each piece unique in both form and design. Nelson Clay Week brings the chance to try something new, and for this exhibition Amber's pieces are more expressive — where her ceramics are known for their intricate detail, these embrace something looser and more instinctive, a chance to play with the clay.
